Group Sessions
Group sessions are offered in a variety of subjects. Many of the groups were developed based off of years of tutoring high school and middle school students who would have benefitted from various, small group instruction and interest groups. Group sessions are fun, dynamic, and educational. Please feel free to get in touch regarding your interest today.

This is a weekly writing workshop for high schoolers. Sessions will begin again the wee of January 4, 2025. It is best suited for those who want to build foundational knowledge of writing and reading skills.
We read short stories and narrative essays, discuss and analyze them, and practice writing through writing prompts. We edit the writing together, and use it to learn grammar rules and fine-tune our writing skills.
Grammar focuses especially on improving writing clarity and the most frequently asked questions on ACT and SAT grammar sections.
Meets over Zoom.
Spring session dates TBD.
Each group is capped at eight students.
Cost: Pay what you can. Suggested $400 per student per semester. Scholarships available, as always.

This is a book club for students in AP English or AP History classes or the equivalent class or interest level. Open to grades 10-12. These are meant to serve as a sample of a college seminar about a niche topic alongside other engaged students who are excited about learning and group discussion.
This is born from my years of work as an AP tutor, seeing students who desired more engagement with the material, more context than what they were getting in class, and to be in discussion groups with other people who had "done their homework."
Books will be chosen by student interest and syllabi and curricula will be developed accordingly.
Sample class outlines are below:
Group 1 will be reading Pervical Everett's award-winning James, which is a telling of Huckleberry Finn through the eyes of the enslaved James who accompanies them on their adventures. We will start by reading excerpts from Huck Finn in order to compare, and we will use this is an opportunity to discuss race and racialization in American fiction alongside essays from writers like Toni Morrison and Audre Lorde.
Group 2 will be reading Emma by Jane Austen, using it as an opportunity to evaluate contemporary discussions of feminism, author voice, and character development. Sample secondary texts include literary critic D.A. Miller's Jane Austen, or, The secret of style. Discussions will include lessons on the literary trope of the marriage plot, and students will compare Jane Austen's marriage plot to those in classic romantic-comedy Clueless.
Meetings will be 2x/month with some outside reading expected. 1.5 hours, evenings, time TBD based on group availability.

This group meets over Zoom on Saturdays for two hours at a time. One hour is spent doing English and Reading Sections with Lily and the other hour doing Math with Dylan. Classes will be kept small, with a maximum 8:1 student teacher ratio. Teachers will grade homework, revise practice tests, and provide personalized feedback to each student. Weekly office hours for one-on-one questions and homework help will be held for both subjects. Expect one hour of homework per week.
Spring workshops are best-suited for current Juniors. Sophomores who want to kickstart their SAT prep can talk to us about joining the class.
Students will take a diagnostic practice test before the class starts and a mid-class practice test in lieu of meeting on February 8. Instructors will review scores from both tests and teach accordingly.March 8 SAT

Does your child have a niche interest? Do they love movies, photography, sports, The Office, or have some other passion? Many of the other groups and workshops were developed and steered by student interests and needs.
Custom group workshops are available and can be tailored to meet students' desires. Contact me for more information.
Example: I had a few high school students who loved film, so we made a curriculum around film appreciation, development of critical writing skills and general enrichment.
Dates TBD, Price TBD. Students can come with a preformed group or pitch a class that they would want offered.
